Springtime in Alaska?...NOT!

Today is April 21st. In catching a bit of the Today show this morning it showed several places throughout the United States that have reached temperatures in the 70's or higher. Grass is growing, flowers are blooming and kids are running around outside in shorts and a tank top. Not here!

Now that the temperatures are creeping ever so slowly to the 40 degree mark, it is time for our annual family tradition of "snow blowing" the front yard. Yes, that is right - snow blowing the front yard. Our front yard is north facing, our back is south. However, if we were to wait like "normal" folks for the snow to melt and the grass to be at the proper condition to rake, it would be closer to the end of May. Summers are short enough as it is up here, so we try to kick it off as early as possible.

Take at look at my husband snow blowing and also take a took at the houses across the street from us and the difference in snow levels. We have at least 2 feet in our front yard, whereas they have inches.
