Is it Spring Yet?

Well it is officially April and "NO" it is not quite spring-time in Alaska just yet.  The temps are slowly warming up and the snow has been melting off and on.   What we need is for it not to freeze at night.  Right now it looks like rain outside, which would actually be a good thing.  It helps keep the dust down in addition to melting the snow faster.

With only 2 months of school left it is so hard to believe that Sara will be done with 1st grade so soon.  Time is sure flying by.  She has had yet another awesome school year at Eagle Academy.  She is reading insanely well for her age as well as doing great in all her other subjects.  She even received an achievement  "Science" award last month.  Go Sara!

In the mean time we have been doing our usual activities to help make the long snowy months of Alaska Spring go by faster.  We have been trying to hook up with the Whalen cousins about once a month.  Last month Aunt Sarah and I got to take the girls to a local pottery studio where each one picked out a piece to paint and then get "fired" up.  Everyone had a great time and all the pieces turned out awesome.

March also signifies the end of Fur Rondy events and the Iditarod.  We went out for some of our favorite things like dog sledding, snow sculptures and also joined in on the IditaZOO for the first time.  Our local zoo puts on a cool event for the kids by having them follow a map throughout the zoo trails, answer questions and then get some nice prizes.  Sara also got to participate in a "howling" contest, which was too cute.  Wish I got that on video; maybe next year.  We finished off the day by visiting with a local musher and his dogs, one of which took a real shine to Bill.
