Mt. Redoubt located approximately 80 miles from Anchorage has officially erupted.
Last night on the news, USGS got really excited since the volcano experienced more that 50 earthquakes in one hour. At 10:38 p.m. Sunday night it finally blew. Since the first initial eruption I believe it has erupted 5 more times, throwing ash several thousands of feet into the air.
Thankfully the wind is blowing just right to keep Anchorage residents from receiving any ash fall. Right now ash is presently raining down in the Talkeetna, Willow and Houston areas. Anchorage is expected to get some, but if we do it will only be about 1-2 mm in thickness. However, all this could change should the eruptions continue to produce massive amounts of ash and the wind direction should change.
