July 4th Fun!!!

We could not have asked for a better fourth of July weekend. Not only was the weather "AMAZING", but the fun we shared with each other ranked up there as well.

The weekend started off when we ran into a familiar couple almost a year to the date that we met last year at Montana Creek; Scott & Charice. You may remember a photo of Sara with a pair of German Shepherds. Well, those were Charice's dogs. This year one of the dogs had to find another home, but "Prince" was still around and of course Sara was in Dog Heaven yet again. We spent the weekend visiting with this couple, as well as some of their other friends. We shared dinners together, drinks and many laughs. Sara not only had a blast catching up with Prince, but also enjoyed playing with their two sons Tim & Joe.

The weather was HOT....hot for Alaska anyway. In the campground itself it was probably in the mid to high 80's and very muggy. Unfortunately ALL fishing had been closed due to poor salmon runs. So what do Alaskans do when the fishing is closed and the weather is hot....they go swimming in a glacier fed creek. My goodness the water was cold, but the kids were in heaven. Kids were floating down the creek on air mattresses, boats and whatever they could find that would float. Sara, Tim & Joe crossed the creek several times and swam for quite awhile. Even Daddy got in there a few times. Sara even got the nerve to go into the faster current up at the elbow of the creek and ride the current into Daddy's arm; and then do it all over again. It was just too cute for words.

On July 4th itself the campground brought in a band. The band was the "Mike Olson Band", which played modern day country. They were very good considering I am not a country person. Sara sported her red, white and blue dress and was ready to DANCE...and did she ever. We lost count after twenty, for the number of people she danced with. She was definitely a big hit there. You could not get her to stop...except when she got over-heated and had to take a break and jump in the creek to cool off. She even made sure to go up to the band and let them know where she was going so they did not get concerned.

When she returned from her swim, bathing suit and all, there she was cutting a rug with whomever would dance with her. The band played for a total of 4 hours and she danced the entire time with exception to her 30-minute intermission swim.

The owners of the campground, Joe and Sheila, then made a speech to the crowd. They thanked everyone for coming, despite the lack of fish, but also thanked all our troops and gave thanks for living in this wonderful country. Then Joe concluded in saying something that neither Bill or I will ever forget. It went something like this...."We like to think of Montana Creek Campground as a family campground, where not only families come to get together....but where some families are even MADE"; and he then pointed right at Sara.

Not many know that it took Bill and I quite awhile to get pregnant. Of course now, everyone knows:) It took a very relaxing camping trip one August weekend and Space #57 to create our wonderful little family. The crowd laughed, clapped and cheered for Sara and us....it was a real special moment.

Below is a slide of the highlights of the weekend. ENJOY:)
